The real truth behind open-plan offices

Open-plan offices, flexible working, collaboration, innovation. Buzzwords or just zzZZZzzz’s?

After working in an open-plan, supposedly collaboration boosting, creative-conversation-enhancing environment, I realised that there were definite flaws in the plan to power innovation in offices.

So is the flow of information enhanced? Does it help build better conversations or produce more productive workers? Or, does it impose unseen barriers?

In this painstakingly well-animated RSA ( Royal Society for the encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce) video, technologist Dave Coplin makes a brilliant argument. Definitely worth the nine minutes.

More on digital productivity?

Ask the cats.

What could happen to British children if war hit the UK

Don’t Panic, this obviously isn’t real. The danger is far far away from the UK, in another timezone, another state of mind.

The London agency (Don’t Panic) has done well with this powerful ‘Save the Children’ video – 32,057,651 views well.

And even though I really like the concept, this is not a new idea, especially for a charity. It’s more on the lines of ‘imagine if this horrible thing happened to someone you love, or you…now donate.’ It works. Always does, unless you hate children…

If only we could end all wars and Think Happy, everyday.

Third dimension scanning knits a new reality

Everything’s going 3D. This video is a beautiful compilation of live building scans. Maybe this is what the next generation of digital maps will look like…

Balls-out brilliance: Brandalism

No marketing bullshit. Just great art. And all this done in one of the most heavily watched cities in the world. Makes me wanna be a ‘brand-al’ brandalising the town. Ripping down bad ads, fake headlines and photoshopped freaks –– all for the street, the art, or something like that.

And there’s a short film…

Move over banksy, the Brandals are here.

Curious? Here you go

Glitch in TV ad tests and rewards a player’s code-cracking skills

The gaming industry really knows how to push a player’s buttons. A kick-ass integrated ad campaign by London ad agency CP + B starts off with a glitchy TVC. A secret message in the ad prompts the curious to embark on a code-cracking quest that leads right to Xbox One goodies.

Here’s the strangeness of the creative rendition: The art for this campaign reminds me of Google’s Ingress –– which was an awesome treat with real-time map integration into the gameplay. Feeling enlightened? Play on.
